From Hearst Fujingaho Magazine: Toyouke-Jaya was established in 1992 by the old tōfu (豆腐) shop owner of Toyouke-ya Yamamoto (とようけ屋山本, established in 1897), wishing to serve customers fresh tōfu and soy milk skin (湯葉, yuba). The restaurant is located in one of the best positions, near the torii shrine gate on the corner of Kitano Tenmangu (北野天満宮) Shrine, so there is always a long line of local Kyoto people and tourists. The menu includes emperor's meal (御膳料理, gozen ryōri), rice bowl dishes (丼, donbiri), all are special tōfu food cooked by who knows all about tōfu. They offer original menu and its taste is nostalgic and heal your heart and body. Recommended menu is Fresh yuba bowl (生湯葉丼, namayuba-donburi). The fresh yuba is mixed with a thick sweet sauce made of arrowroot starch and added mitsuba leaf and ginger for the flavor. Try it and you will find out the reason why many people come to eat this dish.
